Lithium Batteries – Warranty Clarification
One of the principal safety devices within a lithium battery is the Battery Management System (BMS) and the capability of these devices within batteries varies greatly; price is usually (but not always) an indicator. Because lithium batteries need to be maintained by a battery charger regularly, it is critical dealerships and consumers select the right charging technology for lithium.
We have already seen cases where older battery chargers with linear charging technology using a regular charge regardless of battery state, have overcharged lithium batteries and killed them. This will be particularly relevant to lithium batteries that have either a basic or no BMS whatsoever.
Please note that wrong charging is not covered in the battery warranty.
